This chapter contains variables related to cognitive abilities.

10.1 MIQ: Matrix Reasoning IQ Test

The MIQ assesses fluid intelligence, non-verbal reasoning and abstract problem solving abilities. The pupils look at a visual puzzle and have to fill in the missing puzzle piece. They have to select their answer out of 8 given answering options within 120 seconds. The test was developed and calibrated by the Cambridge Psychometrics Centre, and it is used within the LongGold project with the permission of the Centre.

10.2 JAJ: Jack & Jill Working Memory Test

This test measures the capacity of the visuo-spatial working memory using a dual-task paradigm. Pupils have to choose for each item whether two cartoon figures hold blue balls in the same or different hands and also remember the positions of the balls. After each set of pictures the test asks to recall the positions of the balls in the correct order.
