5  Time

This chapter contains time variables.

5.1 test_year

Indicates the first year of the school year in which the testing took place. For the UK, it refers to the second year of the school year in which the testing was conducted, while for Germany it refers to the first year of the school year in which the testing was conducted. Therefore, the test year does not necessarily correspond to the actual calendar year in which the testing took place.

5.1.1 Relationship Between Test Wave and Test Year

Additional information on how test wave and test year relate to each other:

testwave test year school year de school year uk
1 2015 - 2014/2015
2 2016 - 2015/2016
3 2017 2017/2018 2016/2017
4 2018 2018/2019 2017/2018

5.2 test_wave

Test wave of the assessment. The test wave starts with the first data collection (wave 1) in the 2014/2015 school year in England; the first German schools were tested starting from test wave 3.

5.3 test_date

Date of the assessment in R’s default date format. To convert the numeric value into a date in Excel, 25569 must be added to the number, and the resulting value should then be formatted as a date.

5.4 test_time

Indicates the start time of the assessment. For example, 2018-06-25:12 refers to a test that started on 25 June 2018 at 12:XX hours.

This information is not available for every dataset due to platform changes from Qualtrics to Concerto to Shiny, during which dates and times were recorded differently.

5.5 time.started

Indicates the start time of the assessment.

For example, 30.06.2016 08:20:00 means that the questionnaire was started on 30 June 2016 at 08:20. This information is not available for every dataset due to changes in the platforms from Qualtrics to Concerto to Shiny, during which dates and times were recorded differently.

5.6 time.finished

Indicates the end time of the assessment. This information is not available for every dataset due to changes in the platforms from Qualtrics to Concerto to Shiny, during which dates and times were recorded differently.

5.7 test_duration_min

Indicates the duration of the assessment. The full test duration is only available from test wave 5 onwards, as the test was previously conducted on multiple platforms.
